Mission Statement:

Yachats Farm Store nurtures connections between local farms, our local ecosystem, community members, and visitors, creating a culture of local food abundance.

We are all affected by a food system that contributes to crises such as chronic health conditions, food insecurity and hunger, climate change and environmental degradation, economic injustice, loss of farmland, undermining of the local economy, to name a few. We aim to be part of the solution and opt out of the industrial food system by promoting and supporting a healthy, equitable and locally prosperous food system.
Description
The Yachats Farmstore (& Yachats Brewing) provide residents and visitors access to locally produced foods, craft brews, and sustainable living supplies, including organic gardening and permaculture resources. Earth Care, People Care, Fair Share...Yachats Farmstore puts these Permaculture principles into action, strengthening the community food system by keeping dollars circulating locally, giving farmers a viable outlet for their products, providing access to fresh food and it's associated health benefits, supporting small businesses and helping to sustain the community for the long term.

The store fills a gap in local offerings of healthy food and organic gardening supplies. The managers have been a great help to me as I start my organic kitchen gardens and orchard. The basics of compost tea, soil amendments and organic starts have been wonderful. And, the fermented vegetables are great!

Pros & Cons

Pros
Everything here is FIRST CLASS
Cons
Too Bad Organic local food is expensive to sell. It will limit the number of customers who can afford to shop here.

I love this new store--I feel safe knowing where the produce & meat is coming from because I totally trust the owners. They have a beautiful, if somewhat limited (because they're just starting out!) selection of foods, plus a well-stocked inventory of beautiful cookbooks & gardening books, seeds, dirt amendments, and gardening tools. Huge kudos to the amazingly beautiful wood-worked interior and the gorgeous concrete lunch-bar/hang-out table that stretches most of the length of the store-front. I really look forward to the addition of their brewery and greenhouse! The prices are high--but you really get what you pay for, and I'm willing to pay a bit extra knowing where my food comes from, and how it's produced. Definitely worth a trip!
