Veggies of Vero is a CSA. Farm members pick up a box of veggies from the farm either weekly or bi-weekly. We also delivery veggie boxes to your home or office in Indian River County. We sell veggies at the Oceanside Farmers' Market on Saturdays. Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) is a grass roots initiative to keep local farm and farmers in the community. CSA members have a direct relationship with the farmer and members enjoy the highest quality, freshest produce. At Veggies of Vero our goal is to provide produce that is harvested within 24 hours of pick-up to ensure the tastiest, freshest experience for our members.Supermarket produce can travel hundreds (if not thousands) of miles, and crops are picked before they are ripe - sacrificing nutrition and flavor. On average a vegetable travels 1,500 miles from farm to plate. The vegetables and fruits we grow on our farm are selected because of their superior suitability to the Florida climate. This season, 2010 - 2011, members can purchase their boxes on a week-to-week basis or members can also choose to purchase in blocks of four weeks. The ultimate goal of any CSA is to have members commit for the entire season, but since this is our first season we are opening the experience to anyone who wants to give it try. We are sure that once you have tasted our veggies you'll want to become a permanent member of our farm. Veggies of Vero will initially offer 150 memberships, so we expect to be sold out 2011-2012 season. Since this is our first year as a CSA we anticipate there will be bumps along the way. However, it is our top priority that you receive the highest quality veggies, fruits, herbs and flowers. One of the major reasons CSAs came into being was to help farmers better plan their growing season, and to reduce the substantial financial risk inherent in farming. By putting together people who value fresh local produce, and who want to share in the farming process, the farmers and members form a collaborative team than ensures local farming remains a part of their community.
