We farm pasture raised heritage Berkshire hogs. Berkshires are known for having darker, richer meat with flavorful inter-muscular marbling (much like Kobe Beef). Our pigs live their lives in the Great Outdoors. We never use farrowing cages, and they always have free range in the pasture. We are in our third year of farming and are happier than pigs in mud to have the opportunity to supply you with quality, pasture raised, local, clean, delicious Berkshire pork.
We are spending a lot of our efforts in increasing the oak and apple tree health in our pastures, as the pigs love acorns and apples and so does the local wildlife. The herd loves wandering the land and foraging, living as pigs do in the wild... who doesn't love a mud bath?
Happy pigs are tasty pigs, and even we are repeatedly taken aback by the meat quality. Our pigs live as they would by nature and their diets are also supplemented by local brewers grains and an unlimited supply of hormone free greek yogurt dairy whey. The whey gives the meat a touch of sweetness which makes grilled pork chops even more flavorful and juicy. As our hogs sustain and grow primarily on local hay, whey, pasture, and brewers grains, they live on an almost entirely GMO-free diet, however we do supplement their food with conventional hog feed when necessary so they can have a balanced diet and get the calories they need. Hog feed is a small percentage of the hogs' diet (we estimate our last hogs that went to butcher were 90% GMO free).
Additionally, we only treat sick pigs with medications. The last group of hogs that went to butcher never needed any antibiotics or other medications, however we will not deny medical attention to a sick pig. Since our pigs have constant fresh air, exercise, and freedom to roam and act as pigs, they rarely get sick. No pig is happy without an ear scratching from the Farmer, and they are all treated to regular ear scratchings, belly rubs, and words of endearment. Our pigs make the tastiest bacon! Contact us for upcoming butcher dates and pricing. We sell whole and half-hogs with groups of hogs going to the butcher regularly. Currently our prices are $4.00/lb hanging weight for whole hogs and $4.50/lb hanging weight for half hogs.
