A new owner for a farm that's over 300 years old! In October 2013, Tendercrop Form, located in Newbury, MA, opened a new location on Dover Point Road in Dover, NH, on the site of the old Tuttle's Farm that had been farmed by the Tuttle family since 1632. At the moment, they truck grass-fed beef and pork, and a wide variety of vegetables, in from their Newbury location; but the plan is to farm the land that the Tuttles set aside in a conservancy, so that all the produce sold in Dover will truly be local produce. There's also a bakery onsite.

Well, no, probably it wasn't a good idea to buy that jar of home-canned dilly beans at $7 a jar (I didn't see the price till after I'd gotten it home). But they sure were *good* beans. And the other produce available was priced comparably to the natural-foods section at the local supermarket, which makes this a very good bargain indeed, considering that the stuff is "locally" grown (at the moment, trucked in from their primary site 50 miles away, but the plan is to grow food onsite once growing season starts in New Hampshire). The meat, too, was a bit over the top - $7/lb. for ground beef - but it's grass-fed beef, which isn't at all available anyplace else. And the grass-fed pork products were only a dollar or so higher than the local supermarket. The bread, on the other hand, was comparable in price, with a wider selection of sizes. All in all, I'm planning to make this a once-a-week stop, and it's twice as far to Tendercrop Farm as it is to the local supermarket.
