CSA Program

We offer a FULL SEASON SHARE, which is 18 weeks, from the first greens to the final roots and everything in between. You pick up a share at the garden, located in Little Haiti, every Saturday from November to March. Please consider this commitment carefully before signing up. If you miss a pick up day, your share will be donated to a needy family.

One vegetable share will satisfy a small family or 2 dedicated vegetarians and costs $450. Compared to other CSAs our shares are on the small side, making it easy to manage on a weekly basis. We strive to grow as close to 100% of the vegetables in our shares within our 2 small urban gardens so the variety is a bit more limited than what you might get from a buying club or multi-farm CSA.

The Little River Market Garden is made up of 2 small vegetable, cut flower and herb gardens.  Muriel Olivares is the farmer who created the gardens and runs them on a daily basis.  Although the gardens are not certified yet, we use only organic and sustainable practices of agriculture.  Our number one priority is to grow the most nutritious and beautiful produce.  We believe that the health of our soil is directly related to the quality of our harvest so we take as much care of the soil as we do any of the crops.  We focus on composting, cover-cropping and no-till to sustain the micro-organisms and organic matter in our field.  The garden specializes in producing a variety of about 40 (some heirloom) vegetables, herbs, some fruits and flowers.

This market is at the entrance to a park and is easy to miss. I went in search of vegetables and fruit suitable for juicing and came away empty handed. I would suggest getting more local growers and artisans involved, posting more announcements in the very local Starbucks and other other businesses, including Blue Collar and create more of a social network buzz, i.e., more facebook updates, instrgram photos and twitter.
