Not a "Farmers Market"
So my husband and I recenlty watched a few documentaries and went Vegan! yay.. lol... only this requried finding more veggies and fruits, whole grains... you get it... the "natural stuff" lol... We just moved to Jax and were excited to find the Jacksonville Farmers Market! However, the parking stinks.... its terrible actually but thats not why i'm posting this comment.... Im posting because this market is NOT a "Farmers Market"!! Its a "lets buy it cheaper here rather than the grocery store" market!! Almost everything there is resell... all you see is grocery store stickers all over their food from other local "natural" stores.... such as we bought a bucket of mushrooms and when you flip it over it said "Fresh Market $2.99" which is another local store... SO when you ask if the fruit is organic, the guy looked at us as if "Organic" was a terrible thing to say! Like, "OH NO! Nothing here is organic!" and laughed it off! He said there was only one guy in the whole market that was organic... so we went to him... he only sells "Local" food.... Well when you ask "well where?" he said, " well I'm from originally North carolina and I buy this stuff from North Carolina, so to me its local!" ARE YOU SERIOUS?! Norht Carolina to Florida is NOT local! Then he said 1lb of quinoa was $4... okay thats the same price I get 2lb for at Whole Foods and then 1lb of brown Rice was $4... Umm I can get 3lbs of brown rice at Whole Foods for $2.99... his tomatoes were bought from a store and packaged in the little plastic containers......He only sells Quinoa, brown Rice, packaged from a store tomatoes and portabellas, and bok choy...oh and oranges where he said he bought a tree from an old man up the road and gets them from there...??
BASICALLY.... I can rant some more, but this is NOT local food!! so I'm a little disappointed as I'm sure you can tell.... Does anyone know of an actual Farmers Market and not a Resell Market/Maybe its Organic, I dont know Market?!?!?! That would be very helpful!! :)
Thanks
We love this farmers market! Apparently, its the oldest in Florida. I haven't seen much, if any, organic products, but the selection is great and very well priced. I've weighed produce after getting home (to figure out price per pound) and figured out savings of 50% or more compared to sales at Publix, or Walmart.
