As part of the Defense Department's Healthy Base Initiative, Fort G. Meade in Maryland launched its own Farmers Market (FMFM) on May 21, 2014, with a kickoff that attracted over 300 people. The market currently features:
* Freshly picked vegetables (kale, beets, turnips, lettuces, tomatoes, potatoes, onions, etc) and fruits (strawberries, melons) from Pleitez Produce;
* Summer stone fruits, apples, applesauces, butters, rollups and dried fruit from Black Rock Orchards;
* Mouthwatering European-style breads, granola/bars and baked goods (croissants, scones, muffins, cookies) and jams from Atwaters' of Baltimore;
* Rare and heirloom flowers, fruit and vegetable plants and herbs (and some vegetables) from Bowensville Farm & Nursery
Several other vendors are in the process of gaining approval and will join soon!
