Organic vs. non-organic

I would agree that non-organic processed/packaged foods probably do contain items from the first list.

I would speculate also that certified organic packaged foods (except maybe for those in cans) may contain items from the second and third list, but since certified organic foods cannot contain ingredients that are chemically derived, they probably do not contain glutamate. Pectin is a good example.

Great People, Great Farm

I met Bob, owner of Turtle Mist Farm, on my last visit to the Wake Forest Farmer's market. He's a super nice guy and is happy to answer questions pertaining to his farming methods, how he rotates his pasture raised animals, and new ventures they're exploring like a sembiotic arrangement between fish and hydroponically grown vegetables.

I'm impressed with this farm's adherence to high quality standards and serving the local consumer with animal centric farming methods.

You can also tour the farm!

Thanks Bob!!

Pros & Cons

Pros
Animal centric farming methods, can buy from Bob (owner) directly
Cons
Only two locations to buy from this farm: Wake Forest Farmer's market or at the farm itself. Not available at any store.

A real general store in the middle of town

I love the fact that this store is run by the farm owner. The farm is actually in Huntsville, VA, and he runs two general stores. The beef (frozen) is well priced and there are many cuts to choose from.

This is not my only source for local beef, but it sure is a convenient one. The store also sells canning supplies, gardening supplies, etc. Basically a hardward store suited for those interested in growing and preserving their home grown food.

They also have some bulk dry goods like beans and grains, although I haven't tried these yet.
